Based on the previously outlined installation procedures and tool requirements, the following details require special attention during installation:
Groove Machining Details
Before roll-grooving, the pipe must be secured horizontally, ensuring the roller remains perpendicular (at a 90° angle) to the pipe end face.
Control the grooving speed by applying pressure slowly and forming the groove in stages; strictly avoid excessive force that could crack the wall of thin-walled steel pipes.
After machining, re-measure the groove depth and width, and grind away any burrs on the groove edges to prevent them from cutting the sealing gasket.
Sealing Gasket Installation Details
Use only soapy water or detergent for lubrication; strictly avoid applying machine oil or grease, which can accelerate rubber aging.
Ensure the gasket is not twisted or folded over when fitted onto the pipe; the center of the gasket must not protrude beyond the pipe end, and both sides must seat symmetrically within the grooves of the two pipes.
Carefully inspect the gasket before installation to ensure no dirt, grit, or paint adheres to the surface, preventing future leakage.
Coupling Tightening Details
The internal ribs of the coupling must seat fully into the pipe grooves; they must not rest on the flat surface of the pipe wall.
Tighten bolts diagonally and in stages-never fully tighten one side at once-to ensure even distribution of force across the coupling.
Monitor the gasket's condition during tightening to prevent wrinkling or shifting; no part of the gasket should be visible from the outside.
System Integration and Acceptance Details
Use rigid couplings for straight pipe sections by preference, but install one flexible coupling for every 4–5 rigid joints to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction.
Install additional supports or hangers within 500mm of the joint on both sides; the coupling itself must not bear the weight of the pipe.
Increase pressure slowly during testing; if a joint leaks, loosen the bolts to realign the gasket before retightening evenly-never force the bolts tight.
