Which Material Offers The Best Durability For Grooved Couplings?

Leave a message

Key Durability Advantages
By adding molybdenum to a 304 stainless steel base and ensuring sufficient chromium content, the material forms a highly stable passivation film. This provides resistance against aggressive corrosive agents-such as strong acids, strong alkalis, and chloride ions-preventing pitting and stress corrosion cracking during long-term use.

Comparison with Other Materials
Standard ductile iron and carbon steel couplings are prone to corrosion; when buried underground or exposed to corrosive media for extended periods, their service life is only about one-third that of 316L stainless steel.
While 304 stainless steel is suitable for standard, non-corrosive environments, its durability falls far short of 316L in harsh settings such as coastal areas with high salinity or chemical plants with chloride exposure.

Suitable Applications
It is particularly well-suited for demanding conditions, including chemical pipelines, exposed coastal piping networks, and swimming pool water treatment systems. It requires minimal maintenance or replacement over the long term, resulting in a lower total cost of ownership across its entire lifecycle.
